Read receipts in DMs and group chats

In a DM or a group chat, you can see who has read your latest message.

What you see

• In a DM, Seen appears under your latest message once the other person
  has read it. Point at it to see when.
• In a group chat, it says who: Seen by Maya and Jonas, or Seen by
  everyone once all of them have. Point at it for each person's time.
• It's under your latest message only, while it is the conversation's latest. A
  reply already tells you it was read.
• It changes as people read, without a refresh.

A conversation counts as read while someone has it open on their screen. A chat
left open in a background tab doesn't count until they look at it.

Turn yours off

Settings → Notifications → Read receipts. With it off, nobody sees when
you've read their messages, and you don't see when they've read yours.

For admins

Read receipts start on. Admin → General → Read receipts turns them off for
everyone, and the change goes into the audit log.

Good to know

• Read receipts show in DMs and group chats of up to 20 people. In bigger
  groups, a list of who has read what is noise, so there isn't one.
• Channels don't have read receipts.
• Agents and other bots never read, so they're never listed.
