Lists and boards from the keyboard
Go through a list of tasks or a board without the mouse: move, open, select,
and change many tasks at once. It works on a project's List and Board,
and on My Tasks.
Move and open
| Keys | What it does |
|---|---|
| J / K (or ↓ / ↑) | The next or previous task. On a board, down and up its column |
| ← / → | The next column on a board, at the same height |
| Enter (or O) | Open the task beside the list |
| Esc | Clear the selection |
With a task open, J and K carry on to the next task and the panel follows it,
so you can read through a list one task at a time.
Select, then change
Press X to select the task you're on. Shift + J / K adds the tasks you
pass over. With the mouse, Ctrl/⌘-click picks a task and Shift-click a
run. On a list, the box at the start of each row does the same, and the box in
the header picks the whole page.
A bar at the foot of the list says how many are selected. Change them all at
once:
| Key | Change |
|---|---|
| S | Status |
| A | Assignee |
| T (or L) | Tags. A tag every selected task has comes off them all; otherwise it goes on the rest |
| P | Priority |
With nothing selected, the same keys change the task you're on. Each picker
starts with a search, so S, a few letters and Enter moves a task without
the mouse.
Go somewhere
Press G, then a letter: H Home, C Channels, M direct messages,
I Inbox, T My Tasks, A Activity, L Later, D Docs, B
Boards, P Projects, K Calendar. Press ? for every shortcut.
Good to know
- Only a project's admins can change its tasks, as with a single task. On My
Tasks, tasks from projects you don't run are left as they are, and the bar
says so. - To assign many tasks at once, select tasks from one project, so the people
offered are that project's people. - Keys never fire while you're typing, and with views side by side they act on
the view you're in. - In a task's status list, Edit statuses… opens the project's statuses, to
add your own (QA, Design review).
