Timeline and the projects overview
A project's Timeline shows its tasks as bars across the days they run, from
each task's start date to its due date. The Projects page shows every
project you're in on one page: how far along each one is, what's late, and how
its people last said it was going.
The timeline
Open a project and choose Timeline, next to List and Board.
- Each task is a bar from its start date to its due date. A task with only a
due date is a one-day bar on that day. - Tasks are grouped by status, in the board's order. View groups them by
assignee instead, or not at all, and can hide done tasks. - Days, Weeks and Months change the scale. Today brings today
back into view. The line down the timeline is today. - An open task whose due date has passed has a red outline.
- Cancelled tasks aren't shown. Subtasks stay inside their task: open it to see
them. - Click a bar to open the task.
The timeline opens with the plan in view: today and the whole plan when they
fit, and otherwise the tasks nearest today.
Moving tasks
A project's admins can change dates on the timeline:
- Drag a bar to move the task. Its start and due dates move together and
keep their times of day. - Drag either end of a bar to change when it starts or when it's due.
- Unscheduled lists the open tasks with no dates. Drag one onto a day to
make it due that day at 17:00. - From the keyboard: press Tab to reach a bar, then ← and → move it
a day, Shift with an arrow changes when it's due, and Enter opens it.
Several presses in a row are saved as one change. - Esc while dragging puts the bar back.
Each change shows at once on the board and the list as well, and goes into the
task's history. If a change can't be saved, the timeline puts the task back and
says why.
On a phone, the timeline shows the plan. Tap a task to change its dates.
Your client's timeline
A client who follows the project from its
client link can switch their page from
Board to Timeline. They see the same bars, read-only, and open a task to
read it.
The projects overview
All projects, at the top of Projects in the sidebar, lists every project
you're in. Go to Projects in Ctrl/⌘ K opens it too. On a phone, tap your
organization's logo at the top left and choose Projects.
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Health | What the project's latest update said: On track, At risk, Off track, On hold or Done |
| Done | The share of its tasks that are done |
| Tasks | How many are open, overdue, due this week and done, counted in your own time zone |
| Last update | When its latest update was posted |
Needs attention narrows the list to the projects that are off track, at risk,
or have overdue tasks. Sort by name, by what needs attention first, by the least
done, or by the oldest update. Your choice is remembered. On a phone, each
project is a row with its health, its tasks and a progress bar.
A project's health comes from its updates. See Project updates.
