Custom fields

Custom fields give a project's tasks fields of their own: a budget, the channel a piece goes out on, who reviews it, whether the client signed it off. Each shows in the task's panel and as a column in the list, the list can be filtered by it, and the board's cards can show it.

Adding a field

A project's admins add fields from a task's panel (Add a field, or Edit fields under the fields), or from the board's View menu, Manage fields…. Give it a name and choose its kind:

Kind Holds
Select One of a few options, each in its colour
Multi-select Any of a few options
Text A line of text
Number A count or a score
Money An amount in a currency, kept to the cent
Date A day
Person Someone in the workspace
Checkbox Yes or no
Link A web address

A field's kind is chosen when it's made. Its name, its options, its currency and whether cards show it can change any time. A project has up to 30 fields, and a choice field up to 50 options.

Setting values

Open a task and set its fields in its panel. A choice saves as you pick it; a typed value saves when you leave the box, and Escape puts the old one back. Money is typed in units (12,500.50) and shown in the field's currency. A value shows for everyone in the project straight away.

The project's admins change fields and values, as with every task edit; everyone in the project sees them.

Lists, filters and cards

  • List: each field is a column; show or hide it from View. When the list is too narrow for every column, say with a task open beside it, the created date steps aside first and then the field columns, the last one first. A column you tick in View stays.
  • Filter: Fields in the list's toolbar narrows it by a choice, a person or a checkbox, or to the tasks with any value or none. Field filters save with the list's other filters in saved views.
  • Board: turn on On cards for a field and its value shows on every card.

Good to know

  • Renaming an option renames it on every task. Taking one away takes it off the tasks that had it, and the dialog asks first.
  • Deleting a field deletes every task's value of it.
  • A repeating task's next copy keeps its values. Project templates carry a project's fields, without values; the Client project and Product launch templates come with one each.
  • A change shows in the task's history.
  • Custom fields are in every edition, the free one included, from OneCamp v2.63.0 (with AI) and v1.48.0 (without AI).
