Polls

A poll asks a channel one question that everyone answers in one click. Results
update for everyone as people vote.

Post a poll

In any channel, type:

/poll "Which day for the retro?" "Tuesday" "Wednesday" "Thursday"

The question comes first, then 2 to 10 options, each in quotes. Straight or
curly quotes both work.

Vote

Click an option. Your choice is marked, and clicking it again takes your vote
back. The bars show each option's share of the votes, and the line underneath
says how many people voted.

Close a poll

The person who posted it, or a channel admin, can press Close poll. A closed
poll keeps its results and takes no more votes. Polls stay open until closed;
they do not expire.

Let an agent run a poll

Give an agent the Post a poll and Read a poll's results tools. It can then
post a poll in a channel it is allowed to post in, and report the results later,
for example "ask #design which mockup they prefer and tell me tomorrow". An agent
set to ask first proposes the poll and waits for your approval.

Good to know

  • Polls are for channels. In a direct message, /poll still posts the older
card, which keeps votes for 15 minutes.
  • Only people in the channel can see the poll or vote.
