Website redesign

From an audit of the old site to launch, with redirects so links and search rankings carry over.

  1. Week 1

    • Audit the current site

      Day 4 · High priority

Which pages people visit, what's out of date and what's broken. Export the analytics before anything changes.

  2. Week 2

    • Sitemap and content plan

      Day 8 · High priority

Every page the new site will have, what it's for, and who writes it.

    • Wireframes

Day 8 to Day 13 · Medium priority

Layout only, in grey. Agree on these before anything gets colour.

  3. Week 3

    • Visual design

Day 13 to Day 20 · High priority

The home page and one inner page first; the rest follow their lead.

    • Write and collect the copy

      Day 20 · Medium priority

Real words, not placeholder text, before the build starts.

  4. Week 5

    • Build

Day 20 to Day 34 · High priority

Every page in the sitemap built from the visual design and the real copy, on a staging address the client can see.

  5. Week 6

    • Test on phones and browsers

      Day 37 · High priority

Every page and form on each of these. Each problem found becomes its own task.

      • iPhone Safari
      • Android Chrome
      • Desktop Chrome, Firefox and Safari
      • Forms send and arrive
      • Page speed
    • Set up redirects

      Day 38 · High priority

Map every old address to its new one, so old links and search rankings carry over.

    • Launch

      Day 39 · High priority

The domain points at the new site, the redirects are on, and the home page and a form work from outside the office.

  6. Week 7

    • Check analytics and search a week on

      Day 46 · Low priority

Look for pages that lost visits and addresses that now lead nowhere.
